Ziggy’s Story: When Hope Found Its Way Home

At 12 years old, Ziggy – a gentle, sweet-natured lurcher was hit by a sudden and devastating episode of Canine Vestibular Disease, often dubbed “old dog syndrome.”

One moment he was pottering about as usual, and the next, his world (and literally, his balance) was spinning.

Ziggy couldn’t stand or walk without help, he struggled to eat, even going to the toilet required support.

The once vibrant soul was now disoriented, weak, and frightened.

After veterinary treatment brought no improvement, his family were given the heartbreaking advice: prepare for the end.

But Ziggy’s family weren’t ready to give up—and neither was The Dog Witch.

A Different Path

When Ziggy’s humans reached out to The Dog Witch, they were met with both empathy and action.

Rather than spend his final days in a sterile clinic, Ziggy’s family were encouraged to bring him home, back to where he felt safe, loved, and surrounded by familiar smells and the warmth of his family.

The Dog Witch designed a holistic, gentle care plan focused on:

  • Nourishment: Homemade food rich in complex carbs, lean proteins, and seasonal veggies – to nourish his body and help support his immune system.
  • Holistic healing: Regular sessions of massage, energy healing, and sound therapy to support his nervous system and ease physical tension.
  • Aromatherapy: A bespoke essential oil blend, diffused daily to calm his nerves and help him feel grounded.

The Turnaround

What happened next was nothing short of incredible.

Within 24 hours, Ziggy was walking again. He even managed a solo trip to the garden for the toilet. He was eating. He was relaxing.

By 48 hours, his mobility had improved dramatically. He wagged his tail. He even showed signs of wanting to play.

And within just one week, Ziggy was regaining his strength and spark – still with a slight head tilt and a wobble in his step, but brighter, stronger, and full of life.

After one month, Ziggy was back to himself. His recovery was complete. His eyes gleamed again. His family had their boy back.

The Heart of It

Ziggy didn’t just survive – he thrived, and he did it surrounded by love, supported by care tailored to his unique needs, and guided by nature’s wisdom.

The Dog Witch can’t promise miracles, but we do believe in the body’s ability to heal when given the right environment – one that supports the dog, not just the symptoms.
