The following recipe contains foods which will help to health and protect your dog’s body through the winter months
Winter Health Bowl
Ingredients
- Spinach (good for eyesight, digestive health, anti-inflammatory and full of vitamins and minerals)
- Carrots (good for teeth, low in calories, full of vitamins and minerals)
- Sweet Potatoes (full of antioxidants, good source of fibre and vitamin C, rich in potassium, which helps regulate energy levels)
- Turmeric (good for the skin, anti- inflammatory, anti-fungal, can fight cancer, supports liver function and relieves joint issues)
- Ginger (relives pain, relieves sickness and nausea, can help fight colds, aids digestion and helps protect the joints)
- Cauliflower (boosts the immune system and good for bone health)
- Baby potatoes (contain complex carbohydrates and full of vitamins and minerals which protect the body)
- Cracked black pepper (anti-bacterial, good for joints and aids digestion)
- Sea salt (for seasoning)
- Chicken drumsticks (good source of protein, good for joints and muscles)
- Brown Rice (aids digestion, full of fibre and vitamins which boost the immune system, good source of protein and contains complex carbs)
- Red lentils (helps regulate blood sugar and boosts the immune and digestive systems)
Method
- Chop all the vegetables and ginger and add to a large pot
- Measure 1 cup of brown rice and red lentils and add to the pot
- Add the chicken
- Pour 1.5litres of boiling water into the bot
- Season with the cracked pepper and sea salt
- Boil for around 30 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and falling off the bone
- Allow the mixture to cool, then remove the chicken
- Remove the bones and cut up the chicken
- Add back to the mixture and feed to your dog
This will last in the fridge for around 5 days, or you can freeze, depending on the size of your dog.
