Homemade Healthy Chicken and Rice Kibble 

There is a direct correlation between the foods your dog eats and their overall health and wellbeing. 

When it comes to dog’s vitality, a good diet full of natural healthy and nutritious foods, which nourish and heal the body is a must. 

At The Dog Witch, we fully understand that knowing what to feed your dog and what the potential benefits of foods are can be complex. 

This is the reason why we aim to help make your life easier by providing dog friendly recipes as well as detailing the benefits of the ingredients. 

During this recipe we will teach you how to make a simple but health boosting chicken and rice kibble for your dog.

Ingredients 

  • 2 mugs brown rice (aids digestion, good source of vitamins and minerals, good carbohydrates) 
  • 200g fresh baby spinach (good for skin, protects the heart, high in protein, improves cognitive function) 
  • 4 carrots, chopped (good for vision and dental health, good source of fibre) 
  • 6 baby potatoes, chopped (full of vitamins and minerals, good source of energy, aids digestion) 
  • 6-8 roasted chicken drumsticks (good source of protein, which helps to keep muscles and joints healthy, low in fat) 
  • 1.5 litres of water

Method 

  • Place all the ingredients except the cooked chicken into a large pot, along with the water and bring to the boil
  • Reduce to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes or until the rice is soft
  • Allow to cool 
  • Strip the chicken from the bones – DO NOT feed your dog cooked chicken bones as this could cause choking 
  • Add the chicken to the rice and mix and combine 
  • Once everything is cooled to room temperature feed to your dog

This recipe provides 14 portions for an average spaniel size dog, however, adjust portion size to the needs/ size of your dog. 

Can be refrigerated for up to 7 days and frozen for up to 3 months, just defrost and allow to come to room temperature before feeding.
