Christmas Do’s and Dont’s for Dogs
If you are keen to treat your dog during the festive fun and give them a break from their everyday foods here are some top tips on what is safe to feed and what’s not:

Sweet Potato Treats
One food that is safe for dogs to eat and can provide great benefits to their wellbeing is sweet potato.
These versatile vegetables can make a great addition to any dog’s diet, but they can also make tasty treats!
The benefits of feeding sweet potato to your pupper include:
- Encourages healthy bowel movements
- Can alleviate constipation or diarrhoea, depending on the fibre type
- Full of vitamins and minerals
- Helps keep healthy eyes, muscles and bones
- Full of antioxidants
- Aids nervous system function
- Sooths irritations
- Aids the development and function of the heart
- Contains calcium
Festive Cookies
Using sweet potatoes to make easy home-made festive cookies is such a treat for your dog.
This recipe can be made a few days before the big event itself and will easily keep in an airtight container for up to two weeks (if they last that long!)
Ingredients
- 100g mashed sweet potato
- 200g self-raising flour and a little extra for rolling
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp of baking powder
Method
- Pre heat oven to 180 or gas mark 4
- Combine flour and baking powder
- Add the sweet potato and mix with the flour
- Beat the egg and add slowly to the flour and potato mix until it is fully combined
- Empty mixture on to a floured surface and roll to 1cm thick with a rolling pin
- Use festive cookie cutters to cut out shapes
- Pop the shapes on a baking tray and bake in the oven for around 15 minutes or until the cookies are crisp and golden
- Allow to cool and then feed to your dog
- The cookies are suitable for freezing and will last in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks
